Job Description:
Position Summary The Dental Hygienist is responsible for the
delivery of preventative dental care, treatment of periodontal
disease and education to patients. The Dental Hygienist will have
exposure and need an understanding of digital film and radiographs,
sterilization, use and maintenance of instrumentation/equipment and
may be involved with treatment plans. Duties & Responsibilities
General responsibilities Promote and maintain awareness of Agency
programs, services and activities Ability to build rapport with
patient(s), paying attention to detail and providing excellent
customer service through positive, professional interaction Review
and document patient dental history accurately and in detail as
well as any current issues/concerns in EMR Evaluate overall oral
health, examining oral cavity for signs of periodontal disease or
possible cancers, including sores, recessed & bleeding gums and
oral lesions Follow through with oral hygiene procedures in
accordance with treatment plans prescribed by the Dentist;
procedures may include prophylaxis, periodontal scaling, root
planning, debridement, application of fluoride treatment(s) and/or
protective sealant(s) Ability to apply anesthetics as needed and/or
administer nitrous sedation Knowledge and use of film and/or
radiograph; ability to take impressions Assists with or institute
emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment
Patient education Light general office assistance including
unlocking doors, turning on equipment, stocking supplies and/or
disinfecting treatment room(s) Provide patient support that
reflects consideration for emotional, physical, social, cultural,
religious and/or economic influences for all age groups Attend
meetings, seminars, workshops and/or conferences as needed and
approved; for professional development and on behalf of Community
First Health Centers Participate in quality improvement activities
Other duties as assigned Job Requirements Education and/or
Experience Associate and/or Bachelor degree Active Michigan State
Dental Hygienist licensure Current certification to administer
Local Anesthetic Current certification to administer Nitrous Oxide
Sedation Experience working with a diverse population; specifically
those in need/with limited resources Computer proficiency
