The Outdoor Education Program Specialist is primarily
responsible for overseeing, promoting, developing and evaluating
outdoor education programming.
This position provides staff leadership and support in the areas
of outdoor education to support volunteers and girls in their
participation in and/or delivery of outdoor education
opportunities. The incumbent proactively supports Council goals for
camping Services with a focus on increasing girl participation
The Outdoor Education Program Specialist will incorporate all
current GSUSA initiatives and the Girl Scout Leadership Experience
(GSLE) into the design of all programs. She/he will develop and
implement project plans and maintains relationships with volunteers
and community partners.
Work with community volunteers and regional partners to design
and implement outdoor education opportunities within Southeastern
Develop and implement outdoor program curricula to the delivery of
Girl Scout Leadership Experience; meet Council operating goals;
address needs of members; and/or comply with requirements of
grant-funded programs focused on the outdoors.
Develop and implement resources and training to ensure quality
delivery of volunteer-led outdoor programs at the district and
community levels Ensure that all programs are aligned with the
National Program Portfolio and the Girl Scout Leadership
Serve as Council's primary staff liaison to volunteers in the
implementation and delivery of summer day and evening camp
programs. This includes but is not limited to year-round
communication, facilitation of sharing best practices, annual
training on Council and regulatory guidelines, oversee registration
and financial reporting.
Work with the Marketing/Communications department to advertise and
market all weekend activities, day camps and evening programs.
Work closely with Customer Care department to support the
registration process by responding to all participant
Work collaboratively with departments to ensure that all outdoor
programs are in keeping with state, county and GSUSA guidelines,
and that participation in program events is inclusive and
representative of all jurisdictions within the Council.
Assist in the preparing of all promotional materials for outdoor
programs, including informational fliers, calendar postings and
Support camp and outdoor educations programs by providing customer
service and administering program evaluations, creating program
schedules and various reports.
Work with Manager of Camp and Outdoor Education, and other members
of the Program Department to help achieve GSSEM goals and
objectives related to outdoor education programming.
Provide exceptional customer service to ensure that troop leaders,
parents and girl members are well informed and fully prepared to
attend camp, and communicate policy and program procedures as
Collaborate and network to build relationships with community
organizations and groups, colleges, universities, social clubs and
groups to leverage their participation and support.
Evaluate the effectiveness of events by soliciting participant
feedback, summarizing and analyzing results, and formulating
recommendations to capitalize on successes and target areas of
Ensure that diversity and pluralism are incorporated into the work
of the council.
