Job Description:
The Print Operator is a hybrid role responsible for supporting
print production and finishing at the Print Center. The ideal
candidate will be responsible for setting up, adjusting, and
operating various cut sheet and wide format printers. This position
will process production files through various digital front-end
software and operate a selection of bindery equipment to transform
printed sheets into final products. Key responsibilities include
reviewing job ticket specifications, following operating
instructions or guidance from the Print Lead, Print Center
Specialist, and work cohesively with other department team members.
Additionally, this position will monitor quality, output,
productivity, and ensure quality checks on all finished
products.

Print Operations
- Set up, adjust, and operate various inkjet, toner, and wide
format printers.
- Process production files through Fiery, Prismasync, and
Versaworks digital front-end software.
- Set up, adjust, and operate guillotine cutter, saddle stitcher,
folder, laminator, and/or other bindery machines to process printed
sheets into final product.
- Run, feed, jog, arrange, unload, and rotate items on/off
printers and finishing equipment in accordance with operating
instructions or under the guidance of the Print Lead or the Print
Center Specialist.
- Effectively review job ticket specifications and instructions;
production methods, stock description, quantity, size, finishing
requirements, and final stage of operation.
- Monitor quality, output, and productivity. Ensure quality
checks on all finished products.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and problem solve equipment
malfunctions. Work with service technicians to gain insight beyond
operator level maintenance.
- Perform routine maintenance according to the standard operating
producers for all production equipment. This includes feed and
image quality calibrations, cleaning paper path and sensors,
changing blades, tensioning belts, lubrication, and manufacturer
recommended best practices.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong
organizational skills. Work with other operators as a team to
achieve maximum production output.
- Positively communicate information and respond to questions
from team members. Contribute to continues improvement and offer
feedback on process development.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Formal Education & Certification
- High School Degree
Knowledge & Experience
Required
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience, including, but not
limited to, Commercial Printing, Mail House Operations in a
high-volume environment.
- 2+ years post press operator, Bindery Operations.
- Experience working in deadline-driven, fast-paced production
environment.
- Thorough understanding of print production, bindery, and
general manufacturing.
- Understanding of paper stocks, envelopes, substrates, coatings,
and other materials.
Preferred
- Experience operating inkjet, toner, and wide format
printers.
- Experience operating cutters, folders, and saddle
stitchers.
- Technical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment faults.

- Work environment involves everyday risk or discomforts
requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as
manufacturing site, i.e., use of safe work practices with bindery
and mail equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of
fire regulations.
- Work area is adequately lighted, heated, and
ventilated.
- Work outside the standard office 7.5-hour workday may be
required.
- Near Vision - the ability to see details at close range (within
a few feet of the observer).
